MICA MDPMDP: Communicating Global LeadershipProgramme Director:Dr. Nagesh Rao (Director, MICA) _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Programme Dates:December 3-7, 2012 Early Bird Deadline: Thursday, 8th November, 2012 _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Programme Fee (For International Participants) :US $ 1,750* Managers today have to provide leadership to their teams in a globalised world. This could mean running an organisation with subsidiaries in several countries, or managing an organisation that thrives on negotiating cross-border deals or working in cross-cultural teams on projects that call for great cultural sensitivities. Whether it is Mahindra , Tata or Airtel managing their acquisitions abroad or IKEA, Dunkin’ Donuts or Triumph coming to look for opportunities in India, globalisation is here for good. Companies have an urgent need for global leaders and these leaders are not born, but have to be made through executive development programmes. Is your senior team ready to manage and lead companies in countries at and away from home? Are you a global company, a company with global operations or are you a local company with global aspirations? Does your senior team have the mindset, communication strategies and skills to lead in this complex global environment? There are, as we know, many stories of companies failing to work across cultures – Walmart in Germany, Starbucks in Israel, or the Daimler-Benz merger. There are exceptions. When Carlos Ghosn, a Brazilian-born Lebanese businessman, took over the ailing Nissan operations in Japan (for Renault), everyone expected him to fail. In just a couple of years, Mr. Ghosn (called “le cost killer” or “Mr. Fix-It”) turned Nissan around to make it one of the most profitable automobile companies in the world. The key to his success – clarity of a global vision and communicating this vision effectively to multiple stakeholders. This MDP will sensitise your team to subtle nuances of cross-cultural communication and make them ready to provide leadership in today’s globalised world – as and when the need arises. The time is ripe to get your senior team ready to lead with a global mindset. PROGRAMME CONTENTThis five-day intensive MDP will explore the breadth and depth of communicating global leadership. The programme will focus on sensitising participants to the importance of understanding one’s own cultural values in interacting with others; explores culture-general principles that can help participants in communicating effectively across cultures; introduces the importance of learning how to deal with professional and personal barriers in intercultural contexts; and focuses on how to communicate like a global leader. The programme will focus on similarities and differences across cultures. Similarities act as bridges across cultures and differences pose challenges, which can also act as opportunities for learning and growth. The focus of the programme is NOT on learning how to deal with specific cultures. While we draw on examples from various cultures, the focus will be on strategies needed to work effectively across cultures. We will use a well-known, reliable and valid survey to assess the current level of global competency, which will identify participant’s strengths in global leadership and highlight areas of improvement. WHAT WILL PARTICIPANTS GAIN?Participants in this five-day intensive MDP will find a significant improvement in their mindset, manner of dealing with cultural sensitivities and method of communicating with global audiences, including: · A broad and deep understanding of global leadership · Learning the key role of effective communication in global leadership · Exploring the science and art of persuasion in global contexts · A thorough understanding of one’s own global leadership competency · A clear map of strategies and skills to achieve personal and organisational global leadership goals WHO SHOULD ATTEND?Middle to senior executives from private and public sector, government officials, entrepreneurs and NGOs, who either have experience working across cultures or are beginning to do so, will find the programme most useful. The MDP will also be beneficial for anyone who is keen to increase their awareness of cultural issues involved in almost all communication. The participant must be dealing with people from diverse cultural backgrounds and bring a desire to learn how to effectively manage and leverage communication in a global setting. INTERACTIVE METHODOLOGYThis intensive five-day MDP will be delivered through lectures, case studies, role-plays, personal assessment, and guest lectures. Be prepared to be stretched physically and mentally. Be prepared to think, live and act outside-the-box. Be prepared to be innovative and creative. Be prepared to be serious and to have fun.
